On the robot show

This is the only individual post I’ll say about this: it sucks to see people who don’t watch and don’t like the show get drawn into hateful and volatile rhetoric preached by one side of the fandom. It’s frustrating and hurtful because I had finally found a show with the representation I needed only to watch it get torn to pieces by people I called friends that don’t even watch it. Thanks, guys. He wasn’t??? A new protagonist?? It was a flashback to show Shiro’s history

i know he wasn’t but i, and i think many others, based on the hooting and hollering on the showrunners’ twitters had been under the impression there’d be more to it than tragic backstory or tragic current-story or whatever fodder.

i obviously don’t know The Details because i don’t watch or even really care about the show, but i care about when lgbt are hurting over a show they trusted and showrunners who, from where i’ve been sitting, stoked a fire about this character and then kind of did absolutely nothing with it but like. kill him.

like, okay: with talking with a few friends i’ve determined it’s (obviously) not 100% what i thought. but what i’m mad about is having seen the showrunners talk about this character and people, not unreasonably, being under the impression he’d make a return or whatever people were expecting/hoping for/etc. i don’t think the showrunners handled that teasing of the character well at all, i think a lot of people got the wrong (but understandable) idea and now it’s a big shitshow.

As someone whose queer and watches the show and identifies a lot with Shiro, it really…really wasn’t a set thing that Adam would return. We were told we’d find out who he is and what he was to Shiro—most of the people upset see it as losing representation because there isn’t a “relationship” and that wasn’t the point of it at all. People are all caught up in how Shiro doesn’t have a boyfriend and now and that’s why people are mad. Not being in a relation doesn’t change the rep.

Besides. The people mad and upset are sending threats to the creators to the point where one of the voice actors doesn’t feel safe going outside. The creators explicitly stated that Adam was a past character and that he /was/ important to Shiro. People are telling them what did they expect out of this? Not threats? It’s ridiculous.
